The "Marshall Plan" was a hot topic during just prior to the NC State game where college experts explained the best way to beat UNC is to make Marshall beat you from outside. Since he was shooting 24% before that game from behind the arc did we really need an expert to tell us that? Teams have attacked this in two ways: NC State chose to double off of Marshall because UNC had a substantial height advantage inside, a force Marshall to make outside shots. He did so in spades as he connected on 4 of 5 for a career high 23 points.
NC State's defensive plan was unsuccessful more so to execution than scheme. Too often when Wolfpack guards dropped off Marshall to help they did not rotate back while the ball was in the air thus giving Marshall "HORSE" style shots. Virginia on the other hand pressured Marshall often and help mostly with their bigs to double in the post. Marshall was not as successful against UVa and Duke will attempt to do the same.
The Blue Devils know if they get Stillman White into the game they have a major advantage especially on offense where each of the Blue Devil guards could expose this match up.
Marshall has a bit of showmanship in him where the bigger the stage the better he plays. UNC is going to need him to play exceptionally well if they want to claim the title of ACC Regular Season Champions
